Halloween at Midas

Dad also had a Halloween party AND competition at his work. He dressed up as a pimp, as you can see below. He's missing his purple cane in these pics... the component that ties it all together. We spent all night the night before trying to find bling for him to wear. Not sure how that turned out. He's also missing the facial hair we bought, but he couldn't apply because there was no adhesive in the package. He actually won first place with this costume. Unbelievable...

Fleitz Pumpkin Farm

Saturday, we went with Grandma & Grandpa Capwell to the Fleitz Pumpkin Farm in Oregon to pick out some pumpkins and have some fun. It's a great place. We had hot chocolate, went on a hay ride, went through two different mazes, and saw an enormous amount of pumpkins of all sizes, colors, and shapes. Syd adores pumpkins, especially little ones, so we ended up with more than 10 all together. Fortunately, she did give Grandma & Grandpa each one of hers, so we don't have as many as we could on our front porch. It really is a great place to go. If you're interested in more information, you can visit their website at http://www.fleitzpumpkinfarm.com/.

Syd Advances in Karate

Syd completed her first session of karate this past week. They had testing for advancement and Syd passed, so she has graduated to Advanced White belt (a white belt with black stripe). She will now be in a different class and will be working toward her Orange belt. She did very well in the testing and even got the extra credit correct. They asked that we not take pictures during the actual testing, but here are some pictures from the belt ceremony. The first one is Syd receiving her new belt from Sensei Amanda and the second is her receiving her certificate and congratulations from Sensei.

Hands On Museum

We went to the Hands On Museum in Ann Arbor the other day. It is pretty similar to COSI, but a bit smaller. Some of the stuff is a lot cooler and newer than at COSI and Syd had a great time. Her favorite parts were climbing the rock wall, surrounding herself with a bubble, and of course playing in the water. She also enjoyed disrupting the tornado. She's really fascinated by science lately, so we had fun with some of the science stuff there. She also had a chance to make blood, fat globules, and a shrunken head, all part of special Halloween exhibits. The museum also had a visit from some Hamm Radio operators, which was Dad's favorite part.

Trip to Sauder Village with Grandma & Grandpa Capwell

Yesterday, Syd and Mom went to Sauder Village with Grandma & Grandpa Capwell. We had a great time learning about how people used to live.

Here she's checking out the jail.

This is Syd making apple cider.

Syd got to make some German crafts (though, as you can tell she was a bit tired at the time... long day).

And here she is in school.

We had a lot of fun and it was a great day for it. We also got to ride a horse and buggy.

Dad's Playing Hockey Again

Dad is playing hockey again this year. Syd and Mom go to his Sunday games (the rest fall on weeknights and are too late for us to attend). They actually won this game 12 - 4. Here's Dad in an action shot. He's the one in the off white shirt with red stripes and black helmut.

Amy's Visit

Amy Holewinski was in town for a short time and was able to visit with us. Many of you know that Amy was Syd's Infant teacher and Preschool teacher, as well as her babysitter for the first 4+ years of her life. We invited Syd's friend Nick over to play as well since he's a big fan of Amy's too. And Amy brought her niece Erica over to play. The kids had a great time playing and we had fun catching up with Amy.
